When Saveology decided to move into the Daily Deals space, it knew it needed to review its existing email marketing capabilities. Although Saveology was already working with a large email service provider, the company realized it needed to upgrade its email marketing to compete in the Daily Deals industry. “Our email marketing was going to need to scale immensely to deal with the new subscribers we were getting each month”, says Barry Newman, CIO at Saveology, “So we needed an email solution that would allow our email marketers to focus on the business aspect and not the backend aspect of managing subscribers and email campaigns.”
There were a number of issues with the previous email platform that Saveology wished to solve by moving to a new solution. Timely analytics and reporting was a particular problem. Prior to Yesmail, Saveology’s marketers spent half the day manually retrieving data from their systems, severely limiting marketing’s ability to use this data to improve its next campaign. “The previous provider’s reporting infrastructure was not robust. You had to spend a lot of time downloading data, loading it to a database, writing a query, to only then get the results out. It was not user friendly,” states Newman.
Saveology was also looking for a more strategic partnership. “We wanted an email service provider who would partner with us to do the right things with email,” continues Mr. Newman, “like making sure our emails got inboxed and that our emails would adhere to best practices. We wanted someone with that experience”.
Yesmail’s ease of integration also won the day. Integration is simple with Yesmail’s eAPI, helping Saveology to save time and frustration. Not only is Yesmail’s APIs lightweight—a key criteria for Saveology—but they are also very flexible. “Yesmail will customize APIs for specific needs, as opposed to tying us to a pre-packaged API,” explains Barry Newman, “This really assured us that we were working someone who would partner with us, not just someone who would give us a solution that everyone else uses the same way, because we don’t do business the same way as everyone else”. Better integration has also provided Saveology with real-time insight into the status of data imports and exports between Yesmail and other applications, so it knows exactly when new data is available for business use.
